In case of a minor fire, do you know how to use a portable fire extinguisher?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Smoke alarm&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.laval.vortexdev.com\/en\/permits-finder\/municipal-bylaws\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/preprod.laval.vortexdev.com\/reglements-permis\/index-reglements\/\">municipal regulations <\/a>require that your home be equipped with a smoke alarm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to choose it?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All residential buildings built before 1985 must be replaced with smoke alarms that have a non-removable, <strong>long-life lithium battery lasting 10 years, replacing the older 9-volt battery models<\/strong>. These devices have an integrated battery system.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Was your home built before 1985 but equipped with electric smoke detectors? This building is not affected by the regulatory change. Residential buildings protected by hardwired smoke detectors connected to a private monitoring station are also exempt from this new regulation. Some models require manual replacement of the backup battery. A light indicator shows whether it is operational.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ionization smoke detector<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ionization smoke detector is ideal for bedrooms and hallways because it is more sensitive to vapors and smoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Photoelectric smoke detector&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This model is ideal near the kitchen and bathroom because it is less sensitive to vapors and smoke. Other types of smoke alarms can be safely disposed of in the trash.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Carbon monoxide detector<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are required to install a <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.laval.vortexdev.com\/en\/permits-finder\/municipal-bylaws\/avertisseur-monoxyde-carbone\/\">carbon monoxide detector<\/a> if:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You have a fuel-burning appliance, such as a gas stove or wood stove.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your home has direct access to an indoor parking garage.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Quebec Building Code in effect at the time of construction requires it.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless, and non-irritating gas that can be deadly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sources of carbon monoxide in your home&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LCO is released when fuel burns, such as wood, natural gas, propane, gasoline, or oil. It is not mandatory in homes or apartments in Laval, but since it is easy to use, why not have one ?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-vortex-blocks-accordions-group block-accordions-group accordion-container\">\n<section class=\"wp-block-vortex-blocks-accordion-item accordion ac\" id=\"how-to-choose-it\"><div class=\"accordion__accordion\"><button class=\"accordion__header-row accordion-toggle ac-header ac-trigger\"><p class=\"accordion__header__title\">How to choose it?&nbsp;<\/p><span class=\"accordion__header__icon\" role=\"presentation\"><span class=\"plus\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><div class=\"accordion__sub-rows wysiwyg ac-panel\" role=\"region\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are several types of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=i2o9EiXNnQo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">portable fire extinguishers<\/a>. Here are some tips:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Buy a certified extinguisher (e.g., ULC).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose one that is at least 5 pounds (2 kg).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read the instructions to know where to install and how to use it.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select an extinguisher with AB and C ratings to handle. extinguisher.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grab the hose and aim it at the base of the flames.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Firmly press the control handle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extinguish the fire by starting from a distance (at least 3&nbsp;meters) while gradually moving closer to the flames.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sweep from left to right at the base of the flames, covering the entire width of the
